Are you serious Chief?
I hope it had the Darley colours on it!
Only in NSW could you have a gay race day - no wonder its so easy for Victoria to be called the Sporting Capital of the World - and you even have a Gai trainer

What a Day. I've never seen rain or hail like it (at Flemington). I'm sure mex will give us a report when he gets back home. |

Nicconi who? You perhaps need to spruik a horse that looks like it has a winning chance colt - probably showed yesterday that like its relation it has no intestinal fortitude - maybe even some harden the #@#@ up in his hay is required

Ok, now that I have given some back to the suddenly communicative colt following -i will fill you in on yesterdays carnage at Flemington.
It started as a balmy, Mumbai kinda day, sun was shining, the girls back out in force and dressed to impress in pretty dresses heading out to the races.
I was pumped. Armed with a full wallet and a new found confidence now that my beloved doggies had made it to some form of Grand Final for the first time in 40 years (5 more than my lifetime). I had the form guide marked and was ready to go.
Luckily, we had members tickets for the day, because I don't know how we would have got on had we been trackside at our regular haunt on the steps. Strangely enough, we were on these said steps for the running of Race 5 and commented on the eerie look of the sky and it was agreed that we probably had until Race 6 before the rain arrived.
We watched Faint Perfume salute and I realized that I had the first four marked in my Form but forgot to put it on - missing a handy $8000 dividend - thems the brakes, and than headed back up to the members.
The no sh*t sherlock award for the day went to the course announcer who declared that "A Severe Weather Warning" has been issued for Melbourne - you only had to look overhead to know that was the case - but we thought it was just gonna be heavy rain and a bit of thunder and lightning.
Got my bets on for the Newmarket (sans Wanted) and went outside, it looked like Armageddon was coming - Takeover Target led them out, (the pompous members all smattered applause) and looked like he couldn't get back quick enough! As they loaded into the gates, lightining flashed nearby and everyone was oohing and aahing, the wind whipped up and we were all just hoping that they would run and run soon
As per usual Kerrin McEvoy got scared and helped Eagle Falls into 2nd, costing me a bomb - but as soon as the race was over, I retreated inside in disgust at not having Wanted anywhere in any possible combination.
Next thing I knew, the lights were dimming, the bookies boards all went out and the TV screens showed Flemington looking like it was Vancouver - golf ball sized hail and something like 34mm in a hurry - Maribrynong nearby got 60 odd mm in the 2 hrs from 3pm til 5pm., most of it during the initial storm.
The betting ring got flooded, the bookies were on an island surrounded by a foot of water. The tunnel for the horses to go in and out flooded and the steps down from the train station resembled a cascading waterfall. There was even ice piled up inside the members!
Everything got shut down, TAB wasn't taking bets only paying out, beer on tap was stopped it was horrible. Women were coming back inside with bruises from the hail - all you could do was laugh at the situation.
We couldn't get out cos the trains were cancelled and when we finally got to the car park with a mate to give us a ride home, we had to wade through knee deep freezing water in our suits then sit in the car for about 45 mins trying to get out of the car park (mud bowl)
We eventually got home at about 7.30pm after getting in the car at 4.50pm - an epic journey that usuallly takes about an hour!
I will try and send some pics through to the Chief to put up on the site
All in all a classic Flemington experience, ruined by Kerrin screwing up the ride on Eagle Falls (oh yeah did I mention it rained a bit too)
